CROSS-CULTURAL COMPARISONS

Consider some of the variations of adolescence around the world (Brown & Larson, 2002 ) :

1. two-thirds of Asian Indian adolescencents accept their parents’ choice of marital partner form them ( Verma& Saraswathi,2002)
2. In the Philiipppines, many female adolescencets sacrifice their own futures by migrating to the city to earn money that they can send home to their families.
3. Street youth in Kenya and others parts of the world learn to survive under higly stressful circumstances. In some cases abandoned by their parents, they may engage in delingquency or prostitution to provide for their economic needs.
4. In the middle east, many adolescents are not allowed to interact with other sex, even in school ( Booth, 2002 )
5. Whereas individuals in the Unied State are marrying later than in past generations, youth in Rusia are marrying earlier to legitimize sexual activity ( Stetsenko, 2002 ).
